Best Way To Sell a Camper

What’s the best way to sell a camper, trailer, or RV? Excellent question, and one that I asked a reader of this site recently. I stumbled upon Liz, who was selling a vintage trailer on eBay. Since I have a vintage trailer eBay viewer on this site, and her trailer popped up, she got a bit more visibility for her eBay auction. (I have the eBay auction viewer dialed in to the keywords “vintage” “retro” and “trailer”.) Here’s the link: Vintage Trailers on eBay. So every time anyone anywhere has a vintage or retro trailer, and they’ve used those words to describe their eBay auction, it’ll pop up on my site. Sometimes there are one or two, sometimes a dozen, sometimes none…

So that understood, now to the point about Liz, and how we got to exchanging emails! Someone saw her ebay vintage trailer auction here and sent me an email through the camper-blue-book-value website that they were interested in Liz’s vintage trailer and wanted to pick it up the same day! So I replied to the person inquiring that they needed to go through eBay and either place a bid, or send the seller an inquiry. Being an active eBay seller myself, I’m familiar with how it works. I wasn’t sure the person that sent me the email was familiar with how to buy through eBay, so I sent an inquiry to the seller and let her know of the interest, and passed on the email address and the phone number of the interested party. And then Liz (the vintage trailer owner) and I traded a few more email, and I asked her what she thought of selling through eBay, and she replied! (I know what she said, but I’ll give her a chance here to tell you in her own words!) And since she’s sold 10 trailers this year I’d say she’s a good resident expert to interview!

Looking to establish the blue book value of the Airstream Basecamp? Blue Book Value of a new camper or trailer can be found in the Kelly Blue Book Guides, which may be available at your local library. You can also order these from the Kelly Blue Book website on a subscription or single issue basis.

Here’s a great video of the Airstream Basecamp trailer. It has the beautiful lines and appearance of a vintage camper, with new functionality, beauty, and features. This camper trailer is designed for a younger generation that doesn’t need a full sized RV.

Vintage Trailer Rally Indiana

Vintage Trailers are so much fun, and when vintage trailer owners get together it’s a blast! Here’s some info on a vintage trailer rally July / August 2009.

Just to let everyone know that we have set the date for the 2009 Indiana Vintage Trailer Rally at the SouthBend IN KOA. The dates are July30-31-Aug.1-2 2009. Register Your Teardrop Trailer

I’m a member of a Yahoo Group of folks with the same vintage camper interests, and I’m always picking up useful info to help with determining the blue book value of a camp trailer. I read in one of the posts about a site called Nick’s garage with a lot of great info on registering teardrop campers with the California DMV. That’s extrememly useful for folks buying a teardrop camper trailer. One suggestion is to measure your camper trailer, and if it’s under 16 ft you can register as a “camp trailer” with the DMV. (This allows a Permanent Trailer Identification) which only needs to be renewed every 5 years for $10.) Here’s a link to the site: Vintage Camp Trailer. Misty River Cabins & RV Resort has graciously offered to host the 2009 Tennessee Vintage Camper Trailer event. If you will be joining us for the first time, you are in for a wonderful treat! Misty River Cabins & RV Resort is the Tennessee Campground of the Year 2008-2009. Here is just a sample of what Misty River Cabins & RV Resort has to offer:

The vintage camper trailer rally dates are from Thursday May 14 till Sunday May 17, 2009. Here is just a sample schedule for the vintage camper trailer rally:

Thursday May 14, 2009: Early vintage trailer group member arrivals can set up and hang out with other vintage campers, no events are planned for this day.

Friday May 15, 2009: Start the morning off with a nice hot cup of Joe in the Club House. The rest of the vintage campers arrive today. This is a great day to walk around the park, get the low down on how to do some new things to your trailer, hang out with old and new friends, do a little sight seeing, shopping, hiking or just relax!

Saturday May 16, 2009: This is The Big Day! After having your morning coffee, everyone will get ready for the Big Open House and Swap Meet. This event is the best part of the whole rally. We will invite the public, vintage camper owners and those who want to be, the Press and everyone else to come on down and visit with us from 11am till 4pm only! In that 5 hour period, every one of them will be coming to see your trailer! We will also hold a swap meet at the same time, so you can all drag out all of those great collectables and vintage trailer related items to sell at your site. We will be having a pot luck dinner in the club house at 6pm.

Sunday May 17, 2009: It has been a great weekend but it is now time for us to start packing it in for the drive home.

Misty River Cabins & RV Resort is offering a reduced “Group Rate” fee of $32.00 + tax, per site, each night to stay at the park with a two night, Friday and Saturday minimum. These sites are available on
a first come first serve basis and must be reserved before APRIL 30, 2009 for the reduced rate. All sites are “full hook-up”. Cancellations must be made with Misty River at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival in order to receive a refund. If you would like to extend your stay at Misty River, they have graciously extended the group rate to all rally attendees for 4 day prior to and 4 days after the rally. You can order and pay for those nights when you make your reservation. If you want a camp site next to someone else, we would suggest that you make the arrangements with Misty River at the time you pay for your site.

Sales:
Vintage items, camping goods , old trailer parts and other such items are more than welcome for the swap meet on Saturday and may be sold at no expense if you are camping at Misty River. If you wish to place a for sale sign in your trailer at the event with the hopes of selling it, you are more than welcome to. Anyone wishing to sell new & old trailers related items at the event and not camping will be required to register with Misty River and pay a sellers fee. No other individual or business may advertise, promote or hand out business card or flyers at the event without the express written permission of Misty River Cabins & RV Resort.

Looking to establish the Blue Book Value for a camper, camping trailer, motor home, travel trailer, fifth wheels, park model or a heavy duty tow vehicle? In addition to internet searches of sites with campers and RV’s listed for sale, and the KBB guide, the Nada Guide provides excellent references for determining the price for a camper or RV. Used Nada Guides are inexpensive and can provide a good starting place for determining the blue book value of a camper or RV. You can search eBay and Amazon for their used Nada Guide listings.
