There are a couple of very nice resources on the internet for used travel trailers for sale for HiLo trailers, have you checked this site?  HiLo Trailer Parts.  They have some newer HiLo travel trailers noted on their sales pages, and have resources for parts.  Were you looking to sell your travel trailer or wondering if it’s worth holding onto?  It’s be nice to see a picture, if you have one available please let us know and we’d be glad to publish it for you.  Lots of people love to work on vintage campers, and it sounds like you have a very nice vintage travel trailer.  If you were to sell it you could do a search (after logging in) on the eBay Motors site to see the comparable sales prices in your part of the US for similar travel trailers.  You didn’t mention the condition of the tires, electrical system, and whether or not the trailer has had any water damage.  If it’s in towable condition, which it sounds like it is, then it most likely has a value, and it would make a fun and practical starter camper for someone entering the market.  Camping is a fun vacation, and can be very economical.  Lots of people are looking to buy used campers for sale, so if you’re looking to sell it you will most likely find a market for it.  Both Craigslist and eBay have strong camper sales listings.

I have a 1951 Silver Streak Clipper. It is fully vintage complete with a full bath in the front. I would appreciate thoughts on its restoration
1) value of restoring it to vintage origional condition
2) thoughts on keeping all the “cool vintage stuff” but modifying it with greater usability such as removing the bath and placing a dinette in its place
3) a source to find aluminum molding that seals around the outside (alien eye) windows

Wow, this sounds like a terrific travel trailer!  There is certainly a huge following for vintage travel trailers, and it sounds like yours is gorgeous!  For starters, were you planning to keep your Silver Streak Clipper travel trailer for your own use, or is this an investment for resale?  Let’s say you have a goal of selling it, and would like to receive top dollar.  Lots of vintage trailer buffs do appreciate original details in excellent condition.  If you’re looking to sell it, you might lean in this direction.  If you’re keeping it for yourself, and you’d prefer more seating instead of the bath area, then by all means make your Silver Streak Clipper your home away from home and customize to your heart’s content.  I do wonder if down the road you might wish you had the indoor bath, streaking to the public showers in inclement weather might be less than desirable!

Have you checked out Vintage Trailer Supply, Inc. for you question regarding the aluminum molding that seals around the outside windows?  I’ll give you a link to their site, they have a fabulous inventory, and would most likely take a special request.  They have a true love of vintage travel trailers!

I’d suggest that eBay would be a good place to start when finding the value for your travel trailer.  The best way is to look at the sales prices for comparable travel trailers that have sold through eBay Motors.  To see the actual sales data, you’ll need to have an eBay account.  You’re required to log into eBay first, and then you can navigate to eBay Motors, and do an “advanced search”, where you will search for the similar unit.  You can see exactly which travel trailers have sold, and then compare them to your travel trailer.  If you need to replace any parts, you can check with Vintage Trailer Supply.

 The Nada Bluebook is an industry standard of the National Automobile Dealers Association.  The telephone number for customer service is (714)556-8511 ext. “0″.  (Same number to order guides, or you may order your nada bluebook for nada pricing online at nada.com.)  When you need to establish used rv prices, the nada guide is very helpful.  Rv values can be determined with the nada rv price guide.  Nada pricing with the Used Nada is industry standard.

So that understood, now to the point about Liz, and how we got to exchanging emails!  Someone saw her ebay vintage trailer auction here and sent me an email through the camper-blue-book-value website that they were interested in Liz’s vintage trailer and wanted to pick it up the same day!  So I replied to the person inquiring that they needed to go through eBay and either place a bid, or send the seller an inquiry.  Being an active eBay seller myself, I’m familiar with how it works.  I wasn’t sure the person that sent me the email was familiar with how to buy through eBay, so I sent an inquiry to the seller and let her know of the interest, and passed on the email address and the phone number of the interested party.  And then Liz (the vintage trailer owner) and I traded a few more email, and I asked her what she thought of selling through eBay, and she replied!  (I know what she said, but I’ll give her a chance here to tell you in her own words!)  And since she’s sold 10 trailers this year I’d say she’s a good resident expert to interview!

This is a great day to walk around the park, get the low down on how to do some new things to your trailer, hang out with old and new friends, do a little sight seeing, shopping, hiking or just relax!

Saturday May 16, 2009: This is The Big Day! After having your morning coffee, everyone will get ready for the Big Open House and Swap Meet. This event is the best part of the whole rally. We will invite the public, vintage camper owners and those who want to be, the Press and everyone else to come on down and visit with us from 11am till 4pm only! In that 5 hour period, every one of them will be coming to see your trailer! We will also hold a swap meet at the same time, so you can all drag out all of those great collectables and vintage trailer related items to sell at your site.  We will be having a pot luck dinner in the club house at 6pm.

Sunday May 17, 2009: It has been a great weekend but it is now time for us to start packing it in for the drive home.

Misty River Cabins & RV Resort is offering a reduced “Group Rate” fee of $32.00 + tax, per site, each night to stay at the park with a two night, Friday and Saturday minimum. These sites are available on
a first come first serve basis and must be reserved before APRIL 30, 2009 for the reduced rate. All sites are “full hook-up”.  Cancellations must be made with Misty River at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival in order to receive a refund. If you would like to extend your stay at Misty River, they have graciously extended the group rate to all rally attendees for 4 day prior to and 4 days after the rally. You can order and pay for those nights when you make your reservation. If you want a camp site next to someone else, we would suggest that you make the arrangements with Misty River at the time you pay for your site.

Vintage items, camping goods , old trailer parts and other such items are more than welcome for the swap meet on Saturday and may be sold at no expense if you are camping at Misty River. If you wish to place a for sale sign in your trailer at the event with the hopes of selling it, you are more than welcome to. Anyone wishing to sell new & old trailers related items at the event and not camping will be required to register with Misty River and pay a sellers fee. No other individual or business may advertise, promote or hand out business card or flyers at the event without the express written permission of Misty River Cabins & RV Resort.
